PE

At Witham Oaks Academy, we recognise the vital role Physical Education plays in developing the whole child. Our PE curriculum is designed to build physical competence, confidence and resilience, while fostering a lifelong love of sport and healthy living. Through a wide range of activities, pupils develop not only their physical skills, but also their social, emotional and thinking skills, learning to challenge themselves and work collaboratively with others.

Children experience a broad and balanced PE curriculum through the Get Set 4 PE scheme, which ensures clear progression in skills and knowledge across the school. Lessons are carefully sequenced to build on prior learning, enabling pupils to become increasingly confident and competent as they move through each key stage. Alongside this, opportunities such as swimming, competitions and Sports Day enrich pupils’ experiences and promote teamwork, leadership and a sense of achievement.

Our curriculum:

  • Develops competence across a wide range of physical activities.
  • Encourages participation in competitive sports and collaborative activities.
  • Promotes physical fitness, resilience and perseverance.
  • Supports pupils to develop confidence, teamwork and leadership skills.
  • Provides opportunities to be physically active for sustained periods of time.
  • Teaches the importance of leading a healthy, active lifestyle.
  • Builds skills progressively through a structured and sequenced approach.
  • Ensures all pupils can swim confidently and understand water safety by the end of Key Stage 2.

Through this approach, pupils leave Witham Oaks Academy as confident, active individuals who understand the importance of physical activity and are equipped with the skills and motivation to maintain healthy lifestyles beyond primary school.
