5 Argentina
Welcome to Year 5 - Argentina Class - 5A
Class Teacher: Miss Faulkner-Fox
LSA: Miss Eglinton
Welcome to Year 5 Argentina! In 5A we are always polite and listen when others are speaking. We are respectful to our peers, teachers and the environment. We are an engaged class that have positive and curious minds which help us to get the most out of our learning. This year will bring new learning journeys and opportunities for our class, and we can't wait to get started!
Please remember your equipment each day:
- Filled (school) water bottle
- Pupil planner
- Reading book.
Our PE days are Wednesday and Thursday. Children must arrive at school in their PE kits comprising black shorts, white t-shirts and plain black trainers or plimsols. Black tracksuit bottoms and hoodie may be worn when the weather is colder. No items should have any branded logos please. Even though children are arriving in their kits, please ensure that everything is named, especially tracksuit/hoodies, as these items may be removed when inside the classroom. Please remember that earrings cannot be worn for PE and should be removed at home if your child is unable to do this themselves.
Thank you.
Our theme for the Summer Term is a geography topic entitled "Groundbreaking Greeks". This project teaches children about developments and changes over six periods of ancient Greek history, focusing on the city state of Athens in the Classical age, and exploring the lasting legacy of ancient Greece.

Argentina Class Timetable - subject to change
Our class book will be The Famous Five. Please ensure you are reading at home also to maximise your reading journey!
The genre of narrative and non-fiction text types we will be studying this term have been chosen to suit our history project. We integrate English across the curriculum. In each geography and history project, pupils are given four text types which are tailored to age-appropriate literacy objectives and build upon prior learning. The writing outcomes invite children to apply the knowledge they have gained in a history or geography project to a specific text type. In science and some other subjects, a range of technical and informative non-fiction texts are provided to promote ambitious reading across the curriculum. Please see below an overview of the text types this term:
Summer - DT (Architecture)
This project teaches children about how architectural style and technology has developed over time and then use this knowledge to design a building with specific features.
Summer- Art (Mixed media)
This project teaches children about paper crafts, papermaking and collage techniques, including paper, fabric, mixed media and photo collage. They use their learning to create a final piece of small-scale, mixed media collage.
Summer - Art (Expression)
This project teaches children about the Expressionist art movement and the 'Father of Expressionism', Edvard Munch. They explore different ways to portray feelings and emotions in art to create an imaginative self-portrait.
Summer - Science (Properties and changes of materials)
This project teaches children about the wider properties of materials and their uses. They learn about mixtures and how they can be separated using sieving, filtration and evaporation. They study reversible and irreversible changes, and use common indicators to identify irreversible changes.
