Hello 4P and Welcome to Year 4! I hope you all had a great summer and are ready to start your learning journey in 4P.
In Peru class we are enthusiastic and ready to learn. We ensure to model impeccable behaviour and kindness to all at Powers Hall Academy. Within our class we are kind to each other and treat everyone with the respect we would expect ourselves.
What does your child need to bring everyday?
Your child will need:
Their school water bottle, pupil planner and reading book.
Summer One Timetable
PE
Our P.E days are Monday and Tuesday. This means your child will be required to wear their P.E kit to school, rather than their normal uniform. Please ensure that your child is wearing the correct PE kit, which must comprise of black shorts, white t-shirts and plain black trainers or plimsoles. During the colder months, black tracksuit bottoms and a hoodie may be worn. Please ensure clothing does not contain any branded logos. Additionally, please remember that earrings cannot be worn for PE and should be removed at home if your child is unable to do this themselves.
Spellings
Peru class will have a spelling test once a week on a Wednesday. Each child should have their spelling overview for summer term one in their pupil planners. This will list the spellings for each week. The children should have their EdShed passwords in here as well. This will allow you to log onto spelling shed at home, where they can practice weekly spellings.
Summer Theme
Each term Peru class will have a new theme. This theme will be either history or geography based but will link to our learning across the curriculum. Our theme for summer is Ancient Civilisations and will involve learning about different civilisations, such as Ancient Egypt and Sumer! The children will discover more about these civilisations through different primary and secondary sources, including investigating different artefacts.
English
Our English topic will be linked to Ancient Egypt this term. Each term the children focus on four different text types. The children have the opportunity to practice skills connected to each before writing up their final piece.
Please see the overview for this term:
Maths
In Maths this year we will be following the White Rose Maths approach. The White Rose Maths approach focuses on maths mastery. Children are taught to fully grasp topics, not just scrape the surface, so by the time they move on to more advanced lessons they have a deep understanding of foundational concepts. Our topics for this half term are decimals, money, time, statistics, shape and position and direction. Times table practice is integrated into our lessons. The children get to practice a variety of mathematical skills in fluent in five, where they are given questions of varying difficulties to have a go at within five minutes. The children will carry out a times tables check later in the year. If you wish to find out more about this, follow the link below.
The children have been given times table books to practice in. Each week the children will be given a times table to practice. They should complete a page of this per week at home.
Science
In Science this term we will be looking at electricity. The children will be learning about how electricity works and about the different appliances which are run by electricity. The children will get a chance to test their knowledge by creating their own circuits.
Reading
The children are very excited to get started with our reading book for this term. We will be exploring the world of How to Train your Dragon by Cressida Cowell. The children have already begun making links to our previous learning about Vikings and their prior knowledge of dragons!
What can you do?
If you want to do some learning at home you can:
Get your child to practice Times Table Rockstars (their login will be in their pupil planner). This will be especially helpful for the statutory Times Table check later in the year.
Listen to your child read their chosen book.
Practice this weeks spellings on spelling shed.
