Hello 4P and Welcome to Year 4! I hope you all had a great summer and are ready to start your learning journey in 4P.
In Peru class we are enthusiastic and ready to learn. We ensure to model impeccable behaviour and kindness to all at Powers Hall Academy. Within our class we are kind to each other and treat everyone with the respect we would expect ourselves.
What does your child need to bring everyday?
Your child will need:
Their school water bottle, pupil planner and reading books.
Autumn One Timetable
PE
Peru class will have PE on a Tuesday morning and a Thursday afternoon. Children will be required to come into school in their PE kit. PE kits must comprise of black shorts, white t-shirts and plain black trainers or plimsoles. During the colder months, black tracksuit bottoms and a hoodie may be worn. Please ensure clothing does not contain any branded logos. Additionally, please remember that earrings cannot be worn for PE and should be removed at home if your child is unable to do this themselves. Thank you.
Homework
Homework will be set weekly. Every Monday afternoon homework will be collected and set. The homework will include 21 minutes of garage on Times Table Rockstars, learning the set spellings for the week and reading at home a minimum of three times weekly. Logins for Times Table Rockstars and Spelling Shed can be found within the children's pupil planners. The set spellings for the week can be found either in your child's pupil planner or on Spelling Shed. Useful links for homework can be found below.
Project
Our theme for the Autumn term is a History topic called 'Invasion'. This project teaches children about life in Britain after the Roman withdrawal. Children will learn about Anglo-Saxon and Viking invasions up to the Norman conquest. The children will have the opportunity to explore the daily lives of people during these periods through a range of sources including a variety of artefacts.
Science
In Science this term we will be looking at 'Food and the Digestive System'. This project teaches children about the human digestive system. They explore the main parts, starting with the mouth and teeth, identifying teeth types and their functions. This learning is linked to animals' diets and the construction of food chains to show the flow of energy.
Geography
Our geography topic for the autumn term is interconnected world. This project teaches children about compass points and four and six-figure grid references. They learn about the tropics and the countries, climates and culture of North and South America. Children identify physical features in the United Kingdom and learn about the National Rail and canal networks.
Art
In art this term we will be exploring 'contrast and complement'. This project teaches children about colour theory by studying the colour wheel and colour mixing. It includes an exploration of tertiary colours, warm and cool colours, complementary colours and analogous colours, and how artists use colour in their artwork.
