3 Kenya
Welcome to Kenya Class.
Class teacher: Miss Irvine
Year 3 Support: Mrs. Stoneham, Miss Eglinton
Every day will consist of a variety of new, interesting lessons that inspire children to advance their learning and develop into more independent learners.
Meet The Teacher
My name is Miss Irvine and I am thrilled to be joining Powers Hall Academy but also to be teaching Kenya, which is an exciting new venture for me, after spending 10 years in my previous school. After what sounds like a successful start to the year, I cannot wait to build on these foundations. We certainly have lots of other exciting aspects to look forward to and make our learning as enjoyable as possible. I am a huge believer of coming to school for two reasons: to learn and have fun!
One of my favourite subjects is Art - without a doubt! I love all things sport related too. However saying that, I have found a love for many other subjects since becoming a teacher, such as: Science; Reading; and Maths!

When do Kenya have PE?
Our PE days are Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Children must arrive at school in their full PE kits compromising of plain black shorts, white t-shirts and black plimsols/trainers. Dark, plain tracksuit bottoms and hoodie may also be worn when the weather is colder - no branded logos please.
Even though children will be arriving in their kits, please ensure that EVERYTHING is still named. Please remember that earrings cannot be worn for PE and should be removed at home if your child is unable to do this themselves. Long hair should also be tied up.
If your child attends a club after school which requires a PE Kit - they must remember to bring it in to school - or they will be unable to attend.
Homework
Homework will run on a weekly basis (Monday to Monday).
Children will be given some other tasks related to the learning they have completed that week. These sheets will be stuck into their blue homework books.
Each week, children will also be expected to:
- Read at home (on at least three separate occasions)
- Practise their spellings
- Times Table Rockstars (3 minutes daily)

The project 'Rocks, Relics and Rumbles' teaches children about the features and characteristics of Earth's layers, including a detailed exploration of volcanic, tectonic and seismic activity.

'Forces and Magnets' teaches children about contact and non-contact forces, including friction and magnetism. They investigate frictional and magnetic forces, and identify parts of a magnet and magnetic materials.
